Guidance for aspiring novelists

As an experienced writer and editor, I've poured my knowledge into resources designed to help beginning novelists. My non-fiction works, including "Bare Bones & Basics" and the "Storytelling Workbook," offer practical advice and strategies for navigating the novel-writing process. These books are born from years of working in the world of writing and publishing for magazines, books, newspapers, and as a writer and as an executive in marketing communications at marketing agencies and non-profit organizations. Therefore, my background ensures you will receive professional, well-qualified insights.

Our engaging fiction titles

Beyond instructional guides, I am inviting you to explore my fiction books, which exemplify the novel structuring tools and techniques I teach. My stories are a testament to the power of well-structured, well-crafted narratives, and they demonstrate how to apply foundational writing principles effectively. I am inviting you to immerse yourself in worlds built with care and expertise, to experience how theory translates into captivating storytelling.

Distinction and Authenticity

My fiction books stand out through my unique blend of storytelling coupled with my love and study of black American history. For example, since I grew up in Mississippi, I know the covers of my first two books would make anyone who knows Mississippi ask this question: Why would a proud, strong, self-respecting young black woman allow herself to fall in love with and marry any Mississippi born-and-raised white man? And the answer I had to come up with, before crafting my first novel, was: Because after working with him at his publishing company (in Book One), she gets to know him well and learns important things about him, his bloodline, and his family that, until he runs for governor of the state (in Book Ten), no one else knows.

The bottom line is, as a Foundational Black American author, one who grew up in a home with a mother who worked as a domestic servant for decades, in Mississippi and in Texas, I bring a distinct voice and a unique perspective to my writing. Also, having taught at both HBCU and PWI institutions, I possess an expert understanding of many "race-based" matters, and I know how to write authentically from lived experience. And this knowledge and understanding ensures depth and resonance in every story and every moral lesson. This unique background enriches my writing and provides invaluable insights for my readers and for aspiring authors.
