THE "DR. SALLIE TEACHES NOVEL WRITING" PODCAST

The courses featured in my Dr. Sallie Teaches Novel Writing podcast will combine narration with engaging visuals designed to help beginning writers better understand the concepts being taught. Throughout the courses, I will use videos, pictures, graphics, diagrams, and writing examples to clearly illustrate important points about novel structure, character development, plotting, setting, genre, and the writing process itself. These visual elements will help listeners and viewers connect ideas more easily while making the learning experience both enjoyable and inspiring. I will personally narrate each podcast course, guiding writers step-by-step through the challenges and rewards of creating their first novel.

In addition to the podcast courses, viewers and listeners will be encouraged to visit the Dr. Sallie Teaches Novel Writing Blog, where I will provide more in-depth discussions and additional resources related to each topic covered in the podcasts. The blog will expand on important lessons, offer writing tips and encouragement, and provide writers with extra guidance as they continue developing their skills and working toward completing their novels. Together, the podcast and blog will create a supportive learning environment for aspiring novelists who are serious about becoming stronger, more confident writers.

THE DR. SALLIE TEACHES NOVEL WRITING WRITING BLOG

The Dr. Sallie Teaches Novel Writing Blog is designed to provide more information following each podcast course. The goal is to provide a depth of information to guide new and beginning writers through the exciting, yet often intimidating, journey of writing a novel. Many people dream of becoming novelists, but fear keeps them from ever writing the first page. One of the major topics covered in the podcast will be overcoming the fear of writing. Beginning writers often fear failure, rejection, criticism, or the possibility that their stories are not “good enough.” Others fear the commitment and discipline required to complete an entire novel. Through encouragement, practical advice, and real discussions about the writing process, the podcast will help aspiring novelists understand that fear is a normal part of creativity and that the only way to become a writer is to write consistently despite those fears.

Another important focus of the podcast will be helping writers discover their motivation for writing, and my blog will continue this discussion. Every successful novelist needs a personal reason that drives them to sit down and write each day, even when inspiration feels distant. Some writers are motivated by a passion for storytelling, while others want to inspire readers, leave a legacy, or finally share the stories they have carried within them for years. Dr. Sallie Teaches Novel Writing will encourage beginning writers to identify their “why” because motivation becomes the foundation that helps writers remain committed to finishing their first novel. The podcast and blog will also discuss the importance of discipline and daily writing habits that gradually transform ideas into completed manuscripts.

In addition, my podcast courses will teach writers why understanding genre is essential before beginning a novel. New writers often struggle because they attempt to write without first identifying the audience they hope to reach. By understanding genres such as romance, mystery, fantasy, science fiction, literary fiction, or suspense, writers can better understand reader expectations, tone, pacing, and storytelling conventions. Choosing the right genre helps writers create stories that connect more effectively with their ideal readers and allows them to develop confidence in their storytelling abilities.

Finally, Dr. Sallie Teaches Novel Writing podcast and blog will provide practical instruction on the building blocks of powerful fiction. Beginning writers will learn how to create strong plots that keep readers emotionally invested from beginning to end. The podcast and blog courses will also discuss how vivid settings help readers step into the world of the story and why compelling characters are often the heart of unforgettable novels. By teaching writers how to combine plot, setting, and character development effectively, the podcast will help aspiring novelists create stories that entertain, inspire, and resonate deeply with their best potential readers.

THE DR. SALLIE TEACHES NOVEL WRITING FICTION BOOKS

I am a dedicated writer of novels and short stories, and I never sit at my desktop staring at a blank page unless I am taking a much-needed break to think. Why? Because I have learned the basics of what I need to know about using my ideas to structure and plot a novel. Using my plotting and structuring story development tool means I never have to begin writing a novel or a short story without having some sort of idea about how to structure what I plan to write. It’s true. I only begin the writing process when I feel I have a story to tell, and now, all the fears I once had about how I would structure a story are gone. I only write when I know what I want to write about, so all I have to do is follow my structure-as-you-write story development blueprint, which I've included in my book, Bare Bones and Basics, and I’m on my way.

All human beings have bones, and all those bones are made from the same materials, and yet, all bones are different in some way—and every human who has bones looks different. It’s true. Even identical twins have something about them that makes it possible for one to be distinguished from the other.

So, when it comes to bones, even though God used the same materials to make all our bones, they all still come in different sizes and weights. They’re all shaped similarly and differently, at the same time. What does that mean when it comes to story structure? It means even when you use the same structural materials to make the bones of a story, all story bones are still different—in some way, and, once you put flesh on those bones, what you end up with is a distinct, unique story that is unlike any other. It means you will use the same basic elements to structure a story, and once you add the characters, settings, story goal, plot events, subplots, dialogue text and subtext, and motivations, you will end up with a distinct, unique story, unlike any other story.

“The novels written by Sallie Beatrice are so good, and, as a new novelist, I appreciated how each story was different, and she used her Bare Bones & Basics structuring tool to write each novel.”
